TANFON 500 kW Commercial & Industrial Solar for a Port Moresby Supermarket

0 admin 2026-10-26 14:08:52

TANFON designed a 500 kW hybrid PV and 1 MWh storage system for a supermarket at Plazawan Gordons, Port Moresby. It cuts a USD 0.22/kWh power bill and keeps key loads running through grid instability.

TANFON 500 kW C&I Solar + Storage: Plazawan Gordons Supermarket, Port Moresby

TANFON supplied a commercial and industrial hybrid solar system for a supermarket at Plazawan Gordons, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The plant is a 500 kW AC hybrid system with 792 × 650 W modules (514.8 kWp DC), one 500 kW hybrid inverter, and 1,000 kWh (1 MWh) of battery storage.

The operating problem
Central air conditioning and escalators alone total about 350 kW. Daily consumption is about 2,500 kWh. Grid power costs up to USD 0.22/kWh, and an unstable mains supply interrupts normal trading. For a supermarket, that is both a high energy bill and a risk to refrigeration, HVAC, and customer areas.

The TANFON solution
TANFON engineered a customized PV-plus-storage system for this commercial site. Core equipment is designed, manufactured, and installed to Australian standards. The array supplies the store in the daytime. Surplus energy is stored and discharged at night, so the site uses less grid power across the full operating day.

Stated results

  • Payback is stated at 2 years, with electricity savings covering the initial investment.
  • After payback, power cost is described as nearly free, with ongoing operating savings.
  • Key equipment is intended to run for 24 hours without disruption from mains fluctuations.

Local service
TANFON’s commercial and industrial delivery includes an engineer site survey before the order, installation guidance, and after-sales support. Spare parts are stocked for local replacement, and the plant can be monitored remotely through an EMS.

TANFON in Commercial & Industrial Solar

TANFON (Foshan Tanfon Energy Technology Co., Ltd.) is a commercial and industrial solar manufacturer and system provider. Since 2007, the company has focused on hybrid PV and battery storage for high-load sites where grid power is expensive or unreliable.

TANFON designs and manufactures the core of a C&I plant: solar modules, hybrid inverters, lithium batteries, BMS, and EMS. Delivery is one chain, from site survey and system design through production, installation guidance, and after-sales support. Typical loads are factories, supermarkets, hotels, hospitals, and other commercial buildings that need daytime generation, nighttime stored energy, and stable power for critical equipment.

That focus is what TANFON applies on each project: match array, inverter, and storage to the site’s real load, then keep the plant serviceable after commissioning.

What is the TANFON system at Plazawan Gordons?
A 500 kW commercial hybrid solar plant with 1 MWh of storage for a Port Moresby supermarket.

Why was storage included?
Daytime solar covers store loads. The battery keeps stored energy for night use and for unstable grid conditions.

What does TANFON state as the payback?
Two years, based on saved electricity cost against the project investment.

1MW/1.8MWh solar energy system electricity for villages in Congo

The King of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has provided a solar energy storage power station system for the village of Bunkeya to meet the electricity needs of 2500 small households in the village. As the village currently lacks access to the grid, the King requested the design of a 1MW solar panel system paired with a 1.8MWh lithium battery storage system to power the entire village.
